Size: Head and body 3.9-4.9 feet (120-150cm); tail length up to 3.3 feet (about 99cm)

Weight: 77-163 pounds (35-74kg)

Distribution: Central Asia, from Russia and Mongolia through China and Tibet to Himalayas of Afghanistan, Pakistan and India

Habitat: In mountain steppe and coniferous forest at altitudes of 5,900-18,000 feet (1,800-5,500m)

Diet: Blue sheep, ibex, musk deer, hare, boars, marmots, pikas, ground-dwelling birds, yaks, domestic livestock, and goats

Reproduction: After a gestation period of 13-15 weeks, female gives birth to 1-5 cubs

Longevity: about 10-15 years (15-21 in captivity)

Population: Estimated at below 2,500

Status: Endangered
