| Also known as the Pale Desert Cat,
or simply as the Pale Cat. Slightly larger than a domestic house pet, this is
a wild cat without the usual feline spots or stripes. Instead, it has an overall
yellowish-gray color and is paler underneath. It has a black-tipped tail with
a few dark rings on it and pointed, almost lynxlike ears with small tufts of dark
hairs at the tips. This is a cold-country cat with a suitably thick coat of fur
that includes many long guard hairs. There are tufts of hair |

between the pads of its paws that no doubt help to keep its feet warm on icy cold
surfaces. It is not really a desert cat at all, and has been badly named. In reality,
it inhibits barren steppe country and mountain brush terrain. It lives in the
same general area as the Giant Panda. |
