FEATURED PHOTOGRAPHER: RICH ADAMS
I was introduced to photography at a very early age as my grandfather was an avid photographer, and loved to chronicle the family events. It wasn’t until I reached High School however, that my passion for the art really began to take shape. Back in those days I would play in the darkroom, experiment with new ideas in the field, and was limited only by my available time and how much film my teacher’s would provide for me to use. After nearly 2 decades away
from the camera, I made the decision to buy a 35mm SLR when I scheduled a trip to South Africa. Upon returning from the trip, my interest to get back into photography was in high gear. I invested in a few more capable lenses, and immersed myself in books and seminars to get back up to speed. Since that time I have made the jump into digital, and now shoot exclusively in this medium.

Photography is a means for me to connect with my visual world. I have always strived to notice and to appreciate the more subtle aspects of our everyday life, and photography provides a way for me to capture those little slices in time. By capturing a unique moment, and later viewing the image, I feel that I am able to forge a more deep and meaningful connection to a situation.

I particularly enjoy photographing large cats because of the glimpse I am provided into their world and specifically into their behavior. The grace and fluidity of their movements is remarkable. Their strength and power are astounding. To bear witness to these glorious animals interacting in their natural environment is a humbling experience. With all of the environmental impacts of our human world becoming more and more widespread and visible, it is refreshing to witness nature as it was intended. To be present when a Lion is 15 feet away, and looking straight into your lens as you fire away is the pinnacle of photography for me. I live for these moments, and consider myself the luckiest person on the planet when they are playing out.
