FEATURED PHOTOGRAPHER: PAUL C ANDERSON
Introduced to the darkroom by my father and grandfather (both very keen photographers) before I was ten, though I didn’t get “serious” until I reached my twenties.

I love photographing subjects from the natural world, particularly fauna. The very act of photographing animals is an interactive experience between photographer and subject (even though the subject may be unaware) that is extremely rewarding and quite often, rather moving.

Confession time: I’m not a cat lover, in fact my wife and I are in a constant battle with the neighborhood felines who believe that our garden, festooned with feeding stations to attract birds

and squirrels, is for their own devious delights. Big cats though are a different matter. They are, with the possible exception of the lion, amongst the most beautiful and majestic of creatures. It is both a privilege and delight to photograph them in an attempt to portray their magnificence. And yes, their coats do look infinitely better on them than a vainglorious human.

I switched from a Konica SLR system to Canon after they introduced their auto-focus system SLR (EOS) around 14 years ago – though I still have rangefinder and medium format cameras from other manufactures. Currently, my bags hold Canon EOS 5 & 1vHS film bodies and 10D & 1DmkII digital bodies. Lenses used are Canon and range from focal length of 16mm to 500mm (primes and zooms) with the longer focal lengths being image stabilized. No, I don’t carry them all into the field at the same time!!

Paul has had photographs published and exhibited in the UK and abroad. More of his photographs can be viewed at www.paulcanderson.com
